  View Touch : A Laser-Controlled Interactive Technology

This virtual input device from KEYTEC INC controls the mouse functions using a light source, such as laser pointer, and image recognition technology.  This unique invention breaks the boundary of size limitation for touch-interactive applications.  It is indeed one-size-fits-all, and thus provides the most economical way of creating a user-friendly input device for large-screen displays.  The View Touch TM is obviously very suitable for presentation and virtual reality type applications, the developers will soon find it useful for many conventional and unconventional applications.

  Interactive Software

This innovative interactive device contains 3 components: Digital Light Sensor, Dual-Level Laser Pointer and Software.

1. The digital light sensor is a compact device with adjustable focus lens. It can be easily clipped onto the top of a notebook computer or mounted by other suitable mechanical means (a table-top tripod is also included). This sensor connects to a computer’s USB port. No battery or power supply is needed. The sensor can be rotated and tilted freely to adjust the angle to view the entire display area.

2. Although any standard laser pen can be used to operate this system, it is not easy for the user to control the accuracy of pointing from a distance. A specially designed dual-level laser pointer is included to make the operation easy and smooth. Switch A is a push-on/off switch; it emits a weaker laser light to position where the user intends to click. The button B is a momentarily on switch. When pressed, a mouse click is activated. A regular laser pointer or red LED can also be used.

3. An image sensing utility software with picture-in-picture capability assures an easy setup of the digital light sensor. The viewed screen is then calibrated. After calibration, the laser spot will be the location of mouse cursor. A sensitivity control bar can be adjusted to compensate the ambient lights and the laser light intensity to optimize the performance of the dual-level laser pointer.

4. A utility program is provided for annotation purpose. Four different colors can be selected. The user can draw, mark or write on the display. The entire screen can be saved as a snap shot in BMP format. Other control buttons include forward, backward, erase, and minimize. It can also be used to forward and backward power point slide show.
Obviously, the View Touch is a perfect tool for presentation, but it can be used for any application because it runs ALL mouse-driven programs. It works like a touch screen; only the “touch” is made by a laser, not by a finger. It is the most economical “touch” interactive solution for large-size screens.
